Simeon Barclay, Kira Freije, Marguerite Humeau and Tanoa Sasraku have been shortlisted for the 2026 Turner Prize.  

\n\n\n\n

Running since 1984, the Turner Prize is awarded annually to a British or UK-based artist for an outstanding exhibition or presentation in the previous year.

\n\n\n\n

Simeon Barclay was selected for The Ruin, an hour-long ‘spoken word performance’ addressing Britishness, class, gender and race, and was presented at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA), The Hepworth Wakefield, West Yorkshire and New Art Exchange, Nottingham.

\n\n\n\n

Kira Freije was nominated for Unspeak the Chorus at The Hepworth Wakefield, which featured theatrical displays of figurative arrangements made of metal, fabric and found materials.

\n\n\n\n

Marguerite Humeau was picked for Torches at ARKEN Museum of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen and Helsinki Art Museum, which presented works exploring prehistoric, otherworldly forms and a speculative history of ecology.

\n\n\n\n

Tanoa Sasraku was shortlisted for Morale Patch, a presentation also at London’s ICA of sculpture, film and works on paper concerning the geopolitics around oil.

\n\n\n\n

The four artists will be featured in the Turner Prize exhibition, this year at MIMA, the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, scheduled for 26 September – 29 March 2027.

\n\n\n\n

The winner will be announced on 10 December.
