The artist was selected from a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://artreview.com/in-pictures-2026-deutsche-borse-photography-prize-shortlist-announced/\" target=\"_blank\">shortlist of four</a> including Jane Evelyn Atwood, Weronika Gęsicka and Amak Mahmoodian, who will each receive £5,000.</p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https://artreview.com/artreview-podcast-episode-5-rene-matic/\" target=\"_blank\">Matić</a> is a London-based artist and writer working across photography, film, installation and sound to explore ideas of identity, intimacy, race, gender and belonging. Through installations combining documentary photography and snapshots of everyday life, they bring out buried tensions and paradoxes. Their recent exhibitions include the 2025 Turner Prize, Cartrwright Hall Art Gallery, Bradford;  <em>AS OPPOSED TO THE TRUTH</em>, CCA Berlin, Berlin, 2024–25; <em>Rene Matić/Oscar Murillo JAZZ</em>, Kunsthalle Wien, Vienna, 2024; <em>a girl for the living room</em>, Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol, 2023; and <em>upon this rock</em>, South London Gallery, London, 2022.</p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matić’s photography ‘captures everyday life with tenderness and intimacy’, said Anne-Marie Beckmann, director of the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation and member of the jury, in a statement. ‘The importance of chosen family and community shines through.
