Chilean artist, architect and filmmaker Alfredo Jaar has been awarded the IV Mediterranean Albert Camus Prize, presented every two years to recognise the career and work of a creator or thinker who engages with the challenges of the contemporary Mediterranean. The selection was made unanimously among finalists by a jury of five, consisting of Miquel Molina, José Luis Pérez Pont, Anne Prouteau and Javier Gomá, who acts as its president.
Born in Santiago and based in New York, Jaar’s work reflects upon contemporary predicaments and convulsions of the world through a journalistic lens. This year the artist is having two major solo exhibitions, including Be Afraid of the Enormity of the Possible at Kestner Gesellschaft in Hannover, through 30 June, and The End of the World at Kesselhaus at KINDL – Centre for Contemporary Art, Berlin, opening from 15 September to 1 June 2025.
