Mexican artist Andrés Anza (b. 1991) has been named the winner of the 2024 Loewe Foundation Craft Prize. Selected for his life-size ceramic sculpture I only know what I have seen (2023), Anza will receive a grant of EUR 50,000; his selected work will be exhibited at the Palais de Tokyo in Paris from 15 May until 9 June along with works by other 29 finalists.
Born in Mexico city, Anza received his BA from the University of Monterrey in 2014. He has presented solo exhibitions at Galería Anna Marra, Rome; Galería Casa Gotxikoa, San Pedro; Centro Cultural Plaza Fátima, San Pedro; and Galería Obra Negra, Mexico City. His ceramic work was included in the 2015 Emerging Art Biennial in Monterrey, where he won the Encouragement to Create award.
The selection was made by an international jury of 13, from the field of design, architecture, journalism, criticism and museum curatorship – including Magdalene Odundo, Minsuk Cho, Olivier Gabet and Abraham Thomas.
Launched in 2016 as a tribute to Loewe’s establishment in 1846 as a collective craft workshop, the Foundation Craft Prize is awarded annually to celebrate modern craftsmanship. Past winners include Eriko Inazaki, Dahye Jeong, Fanglu Lin among others.
