In a joint announcement, Art Dubai has appointed Alexie Glass-Kantor as executive director, curatorial for Art Dubai Group – a new role for the institution; and Dunja Gottweis as director of the Art Dubai fair.
Glass-Kantor was previously executive director of Sydney’s Artspace (2013–2024), where she led a multi-million-dollar redevelopment of the centre. Her curatorial experience includes Marco Fusinato’s Australian Pavilion at the 59th Venice Biennale (2022), Encounters at Art Basel Hong Kong (2015–2025), and co-curating the 12th Adelaide Biennial of Contemporary Art (2012). She also serves on boards including the Advisory Council, MCAD Manila, and the Barbican Podium Curatorial Committee.
Gottweis joins from Art Basel, where over 12 years she has been global head of gallery relations – and on the management board – since 2022; following a series of roles in gallery relations. According to Art Dubai’s announcement, Gottweis played ‘an integral role in the launch of Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Basel Paris’.
Ben Floyd, the cofounder and CEO of the Art Dubai Group, says of the appointments: ‘Dunja’s deep understanding and experience of working in the global art world and her focus on leading and developing the fair, will truly enhance our flagship annual art event. Alexie brings an exceptional range of world class curatorial expertise, leadership experience and a visionary approach to this new role of Executive Director, Curatorial. I am confident their respective skills and experience will complement Benedetta [Ghione, executive director] and Pablo [del Val, artistic director]’s, and that together they can continue to build on the growth that has marked our last decade and expand Art Dubai Group’s impact in the contemporary art world.’
Glass-Kantor will begin in April 2025, while Gottweis will takeover planning of the 2026 Art Dubai fair from Ghione and del Val.
The 2025 Art Dubai fair runs 18-20 April at Madinat Jumeirah.
