Ramona Heinlein

Ramona Heinlein is a writer and art historian based in Vienna. Recipient of the Prize for Young Art Criticism of AICA Austria in 2022, she lectures at institutions including the University of Applied Arts Vienna and publishes reviews in magazines such as Frieze and Texte zur Kunst. She currently works at Vienna Secession, following earlier positions at the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, Austria; Kunsthalle Wien, Austria; Ludwig Forum für Internationale Kunst in Aachen, Germany; and MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt, Germany. Her curatorial projects include The Invention of the Neue Wilde. Painting and Subculture around 1980 at Ludwig Forum, for which she also edited the accompanying research publication. Her scholarly focus lies on expanded notions of painting and drawing, with an emphasis on tenderness and vulnerability, while examining the possibilities of resistance within mark-making.
