According to an article published today by The Indian Express, Bose Krishnamachari’s resignation as director of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (KMB) and from the board of trustees of the Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF) in January came after KBF received a complaint against him alleging sexual harassment.
Venu Vasudevan, chairperson of KBF, told The Indian Express that the complaint had been received in December and that the allegations were ‘one of the reasons’ that Krishnamachari had stepped down. At the time of his resignation, Krishnamachari cited ‘pressing family reasons’ as the reason for his departure.
The complaint claims that Krishnamachari allegedly called a female employee over to his apartment in Kochi where he made unwanted sexual remarks and physical advances towards her.
Responding to the allegations via The Indian Express, Krishnamachari said: ‘These are misleading and unsubstantiated allegations taken out of context. I am aware of the sources and the pattern of circulation. I have already instructed my lawyers to initiate legal proceedings both civil and criminal, in Mumbai and expect to lodge the same in coming days.’
