JoinĀ ArtReviewĀ and Ursula on Tuesday 2 September for a conversation with Bex Wade and Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley
ArtReviewĀ andĀ UrsulaĀ magazine have teamed up to host a series of talks on the first Tuesday of every month in the Wine Bar underneath the Farm Shop in Londonās Mayfair. Staged as a series of intimate conversations and more, set in a relaxed and casual bar, the series will allow audiences a insight into the inspirations, working methods and passions of some of todayās key visionaries from artists and thinkers, to filmmakers, designers, philosophers and architects. The events will span creative thinking and how it evolves to match our times. The series is a celebration of traditional conviviality, to be experienced live by those present rather than remotely, on screen. The talk will take place in the restaurant, where food and drink can be ordered throughout the evening.

About Bex Wade
Bex Wade (they/them) is a trans nonbinary photographer based in the UK. For almost two decades, they have focused on documenting queer lives in all their power and complexityāfrom the clubs and parties of the LGBTQIA+ scenes in the UK and New York, to Pride and protest events worldwide. In recent years, Wade has gravitated towards overlooked queer stories, making visible the minorities within the LGBTQIA+ community. Their body of work forms a portrait of queer joy and power, rage and multiplicity, hope, kinship and belonging.
Wadeās work has featured in diverse media publications including ArtReview, VICE, British Vogue, BBC and Dazed; in storytelling projects for organizations such as Minority Rights Group International, Human Dignity Trust, and the UN; and in UK-wide billboard campaigns with major global brands. Their work has appeared in galleries and museums including: SLQS Gallery, London, UK; GIANT Gallery, Bournemouth, UK; Museum of Youth Culture, London, UK; and VOMA. Multiple works were acquired by the Victoria & Albert Museum in 2023, where Wade became the first trans artist to be permanently displayed.
Wadeās work will feature in the group exhibition, āDonāt Look Back,ā curated by Beth Greenacre and Sigrid Kirkat at Unit London from 26 September ā 26 October 2025. The exhibition reexamines the 1990s and early 2000s through a contemporary lens āĀ one that is more inclusive, diverse and alive with possibility.
About Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley
Danielle Brathwaite-Shirley (they/them) lives and works between Berlin, Germany and London, UK. Working predominantly in animation, sound, performance and video game development, and with a background in DIY print media and activism, the artistās practice focuses on intertwining lived experience with fiction to imaginatively retell and archive the stories of Black Trans people. Their projects often take the form of immersive video games, in which players navigate choices that confront their assumptions and biases, and which offer ways of preserving histories and envisioning futures where the voices of those who are ignored or erased are centered.
Brathwaite-Shirley has presented recent solo exhibitions at institutions such as LAS Foundation, Halle am Berghain, Berlin, Germany (2024); FundaciĆ³ Joan MirĆ³, Barcelona, Spain (2024); Studio Voltaire, London, UK (2024); Centre dāArt Contemporain GenĆØve, Switzerland (2024); SCAD Museum of Art, Savannah GA (2023); Villa Arson, Nice, France (2023); HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Berlin, Germany (2023); FACT, Liverpool, UK (2022); and Project Arts Centre, Dublin, Ireland (2022).
āDanielle Braithwaite-Shirley: The Delusion,ā a new video game commission and multiplayer immersive experience exploring themes of polarisation, censorship and social connection, will be on view at the Serpentine in London, UK from30 September 2025 ā 18 January 2026.
