London non-profit space Gasworks has opened the application process for the third Shelagh Wakely Residency, inviting an artist based in Latin America to apply for a fully-funded residency at the gallery for eleven weeks from 11 April. Tania Perez Cordova and Andrea Canepa were the awarded the residency in 2013 and 2014 respectively. Shelagh Wakely was a London-based artist who, through her friendship with Brazilian artist Tunga, developed an interest in the Brazilian avant-garde. Her house in Kentish Town quickly became a meeting point for Latin American artists who happened to be in town. She died in 2011. The bequest that funds the Gasworks residency is administered by the Elephant Trust.
