The artist Jacolby Satterwhite has received the inaugural Artists Living With Cancer Grant, initiated by the Rema Hort Mann Fund (RHMF) with support from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation. The $25,000 award aims to provide financial support to artists based in New York City and who are undergoing active cancer treatment.
Brooklyn-based artist Jacolby Satterwhite is known for works that use immersive installations, virtual reality and digital media to address themes of ritual, freedom and world-building.
‘I’m grateful to the Rema Hort Mann Fund and The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation for understanding that an artist’s life and an artist’s practice are not separate, and that to support an artist’s health is to support the arts,’ said Satterwhite in a statement. ‘This grant comes at a time when affordable healthcare is scarce, not just for artists, but for everyone. I applaud the collaboration and hope that it inspires change.’
