Johanna Burton has been named as the new executive director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. Burton, who will take up the role in November, will work alongside the artistic director Klaus Biesenbach.

Burton is currently the executive director of the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University in Columbus. ‘MOCA’s artist-centered mission dovetails with my own commitment to creating platforms that foster artistic innovation and emphasize deep connections to audiences,’ she said in a statement.

The museum’s plan to restructure its leadership was announced in February, with Biesenbach shifting from his then-role as director to the new role of artistic director – focused on ‘increasing the museum’s cultural visibility and artist relations, while at the same time growing the museum’s international profile and partnerships’ – to head up LA MoCA alongside an executive director.
