Kunsthall Stavanger, Norway, has appointed Joseph Constable as its new director. He will be taking over the role from Hanne Mugaas, who is joining the Office for Contemporary Art Norway as head of programme.

Constable joins the Kunsthall from his position as head of exhibitions at the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea. Previously, he spent six years as a curator at the Serpentine Galleries, London. He has also worked independently as a curator and producer.

Speaking on his appointment, Constable said, ‘As 2025 marks a century since the inauguration of the Kunsthall’s historic spaces, I look forward to building on this extraordinary legacy; collaborating with and learning from the team, while continuing the institution’s commitment to artistic experimentation. The coming years represent an exciting period of growth, and it is an immense privilege to lead this transition by engaging with artists, audiences, and partners on local, national, and international levels.’

He will begin his new role on 1 January.
