Manifesta 16 Ruhr announces list of artists

Manifesta 16 has announced the full list of artists for its 2026 edition. Set to open on 21 June, the nomadic biennial will take place across 4 cities in Germany’s Ruhr area and will be curated collaboratively by an artistic team of eight. 

The biennial will unfold across 12 decommissioned modernist churches in Bochum, Essen, Duisburg and Gelsenkirchen. Each church will be renewed as sites to explore ‘developing alternative social models’ and building ‘civic life, physical wellbeing and community encounter’. On view will be works from 106 participants from 30 countries, of which 64 will be new commissions.
