Maria Arusoo has been appointed as director and member of the management board of Tallinn Art Hall for a five year term.
Arusoo is a curator, dramaturg and cultural manager. Since 2013, she has been director of the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art, Tallinn, and commissioner of the Estonian Pavilion at the Venice Biennale. Prior to this, she has worked as a curator at the Estonian Centre for Contemporary Art and as a project manager for the artist Martin Creed’s studio.
‘My aim is to expand the organisation’s scope and open up new ways of thinking about and engaging with art and culture’, Arusoo said in a statement. ‘I want to build the Art Hall’s programme around meaningful collaboration and participation, while also strengthening its interdisciplinary dimension.’
Arusoo will begin her new role on 1 January 2027, following the reopening of the museum in December after five years of renovations.
