Currently director of the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, the art historian succeeds Deborah Swallow who is departing the college after 19 years
Mark Hallett has been appointed Märit Rausing Director of the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Hallett, who will take up the role in August 2023, succeeds Deborah Swallow in the role, who is departing the Courtauld after 19 years.
Hallett currently serves as director of the London-based Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (part of Yale University); prior to that, he headed up the history of art department at the University of York.
Hallett said in a statement: ‘It is a privilege to be asked to lead The Courtauld at this time in its history. Famous for its path-breaking research, outstanding staff, superb collections and newly renovated Gallery, The Courtauld is one of Britain’s jewels, attracting a global community of scholars, students and visitors.’
