New director of Yorkshire Sculpture Park announced

Joe Hill will be director and chief executive of Yorkshire Sculpture Park (YSP), the sculpture park located in the historic parkland in West Yorkshire.

Hill, born and raised in Yorkshire and a trained artist, comes from his current role as director and CEO of Towner Eastbourne. During his eight-year tenure, the museum was awarded Art Fund’s Museum of the Year in 2020, hosted the Turner Prize in 2023 and secured funding to launch an arts and heritage centre at its nearby Black Robin Farm. Prior to that, Hill was director of Focal Point Gallery, Southend-on-Sea, and has held curatorial roles at Camden Arts Centre, Firstsite Colchester and the Venice Biennale.

Looking ahead to its 50th anniversary in 2027, at YSP Hill will lead the museum’s artistic and strategic growth.

‘I am thrilled to be joining as Director and Chief Executive’, Hill says in a statement, ‘and look forward to working with the team to ensure YSP continues to grow as a truly global destination for sculpture, while remaining deeply rooted in Yorkshire and the communities and landscape that make it so distinctive.

Hill will join YSP starting 14 April.
