Jackson Arn, the New Yorker’s art critic has left the magazine after only two years in the job.

The New York Times reports that Arn’s tenure was cut short after accusations of inappropriate behaviour at the US weekly’s 100th anniversary party in February. Sources told the Times that Arn appeared drunk during the celebration at nightclub Jean’s.

Arn took over the prestigious writing gig from Peter Schjeldahl, who worked the beat for 24 years until his death in 2022. Previously freelance, Arn had contributed to Artforum, Frieze and The Nation.

Speaking to Yale Daily News about following in the footsteps of Schjeldahl, Arn said ‘I feel sometimes like I’m walking across a tightrope and I’ll be okay as long as they don’t ever look down. But yeah, thinking too much about Schjeldahl would be like looking down.’
