To celebrate its 40th anniversary, the Hong Kong Arts Centre (HKAC) is presenting the first honorary fellowships to two artists in recognition of their achievements and contributions to the Hong Kong and Asian art scene. The fellowship is given to individuals working within the fields of curatorship, visual arts, music, theatre, comics and animation, public arts, dance, film and media arts. The inaugural fellowships have been awarded to comic artist Theresa Lee Wai-chun and composer and artist Samson Young, who represented Hong Kong at last year’s Venice Biennale.
The HKAC is Hong Kong’s only independent, nonprofit multi-arts centre that ‘fosters artistic exchanges locally and internationally’ and presents exhibitions, screenings and performances to support homegrown artists both in Hong Kong and abroad.
In a statement, Dominica Yang, the chairman of Hong Kong Arts Centre has said: ‘The Honorary Fellowships recognise exceptional achievements in both local and international art scenes beyond Asia, as well as significant devotions to nurturing the next generation of talented artists. Our awardees of this year, Ms. Theresa Lee Wai-chun and Mr. Samson Young Kar-fai, have both not only developed deep ties to the HKAC in unique ways, but also shared the same enlightening vision and passion as ours.’
