American painter and sculptor Ellsworth Kelly has died, aged 92. Born in New York, Kelly rose to prominence to become a major figure in postwar art for his for his use of light, hard-edged colour and associations with minimal, abstract and op art. In 2013 he was awarded the US National Medal of Arts, adding to his existing awards of l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres and Chevalier de La Legion d’Honneur.
