Colombian artist Doris Salcedo is the first recipient of the Nasher Prize, an annual award presented to a living artist who has had an extraordinary impact on the field of sculpture, and launched by the Nasher Sculpture Center in Dallas, Texas. Salcedo will receive $100,000, along with a commemorative award designed by Renzo Piano.
Based in Bogotá, Doris Salcedo works with sculpture and installation and currently has a retrospective at the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Previous solo shows include Tate modern’s Turbine Hall commission, the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Tate Britain and Moderna Museet, Malmö. Her work ha also featured in the XXIV São Paolo Biennial, Documenta XI, Kassel and the 8th Istanbul Biennial.
