Elvira Dyangani Ose has been announced senior curator at Creative Time, taking over from Nato Thompson who has been appointed artistic director. Ose joins the New York non-profit commissioner of public artworks from Goldsmiths, University of London and the Thought Council at the Fondazione Prada. Before teaching at Goldsmiths, she was curator of international art at Tate Modern and curated the 2015 Göteborg International Biennial for Contemporary Art. She has also curated exhibitions of work by Theaster Gates, Nástio Mosquito, Betye Saar, and Carrie Mae Weems, among others and in 2017 she was on the jury of the Artes Mundi 7 art prize.
Thompson’s projects for Creative Time include Pedro Reyes’s Doomocracy, a satirical haunted house staged in 2016 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal; Kara Walker’s A Subtlety, a huge sphinx-like sculpture made of sugar and installed in the disused Domino Sugar Factory in Williamsburg; and Trevor Paglen’s The Last Pictures, a documentary-based artwork stored on an ultra-archival disc which which was launched into space in 2012. The organisation also stage the Creative Time Summit, an annual conference bringing together figures from both arts and politics.
