The five laureates of the 2015 Praemium Imperiale International Arts Awards have been announced. They include graphic designer and artist Tadanori Yokoo, sculptor Wolfgang Laib, architect Dominique Perrault, as well as pianist Mitsuko Uchida and ballerina Sylvie Guillem.
Each laureate will receive a monetary prize of 15 million yen (approx £80,000), a medal and a testimonial letter presented by Honorary Patron of the Japan Art Association Prince Hitachi at a ceremony in late October.
Since its inception in 1989, the awards have honoured cultural figures including Merce Cunningham, Jean-Luc Godard, Bruce Nauman, Jasper Johns, Tadao Ando, Pierre Boulez and Bridget Riley.
