The federal museums directors’ board in Austria instructed museums to close until 31 March, at the least, in anticipation of a rise in COVID-19 cases. At the end of March, officials will reevaluate whether museums should remain closed.

Naturally, the decree has affected many events due to take place in this time. The Albertina Museum has delayed the public opening of its new site, Albertina Modern, dedicated to contemporary art. Diagonale, the festival of Austrian film, which was due to take place from 24 to 29 March has been cancelled.

In Poland similar measures are in place. The government ordered the closure of museums around the country for two weeks beginning this Thursday.
