Moritz Wesseler, a curator, art historian and former director of the Kölnischer Kunstverein in Cologne, has been announced as the new director of Kassel’s Fridericianum. He will take up the post in November, succeeding to Suzsanne Pfeffer, who was recently appointed director of the Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt.
In a statement, Wesseler said his objective was ‘to offer a platform for key players in the realm of contemporary art still largely unknown in Germany’, and ‘to strengthen the institution’s connection within the city and the local region’. During his time at the Kunstverein, Wesseler curated exhibitions by young international artists including Andra Ursuta, Darren Bader, Avery Singer, Talia Chetrit, Adriano Costa, Cameron Jamie, Alex Da Corte, and Walter Price, among others.
