Abc Berlin and Art Cologne have announced they are currently in the process of launching a new art fair together, Art Berlin, set to take place 14–17 September. The new fair will replace abc, which has been running for nine years, taking place on similar dates and in the same venue, the Station in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The new fair will be directed by Maike Cruse, director of Gallery Weekend Berlin, and her team. The short, vague statement says the teams of abc and Art Cologne are still ‘exploring different methods of creating a collaborative structure for the fair’. Nothing has been said on how this will affect Art Cologne.
This news follows on from the announcement, last September, that the Swiss fair conglomerate MCH Group (who own, among others, the Art Basel fairs) was becoming a major stakeholder in the new Art Düsseldorf fair, which is to launch on 16–19 November in the German city.
