Collector and patron Antoine de Galbert has announced he will be closing la maison rouge in Paris in 2018. The art foundation, which opened in 2004 in a former factory in the Bastille district, is dedicated to showing private collections and exhibitions of ‘marginal’ and outsider art. ‘I am neither sick nor financially ruined,’ de Galbert told Le Monde. Instead, the collector explained that maintaining the space would be too costly and that he preferred to ‘to quit while you’re ahead rather than risk closing down at a lower point’.
Although space will close its doors on 30 October 2018, the Fondation Antoine de Galbert will continue to exist, redirecting its funds towards art patronage.
