Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev has been appointed as director of both GAM (Galleria d’Arte Moderno) and Castello di Rivoli in Turin, which will merge into one big institution under this new directorship, Artribune reports.
Christov-Bakargiev will start her tenure on 1 January 2016, after curating this year’s Istanbul Biennale (5 September – 1 November). It will mark a return to Turin for the American-Italian curator, who worked as chief curator at Castello di Rivoli from 2002 to 2008, and as interim director in 2009.
Previous positions also include senior curator at MoMA PS1, New York (1999–2001), artistic director of the 16th Sydney Biennale (2006-2008), and head curator of Documenta 13 (2012).
