The Nigerian curator Bisi Silva has died. As well as being the founder and artistic director of the Centre of Contemporary Art, Lagos, Silva curated numerous biennials and touring shows.
She was artistic director of the 10th Bamako Encounters, (Rencontres de Bamako), African Biennale of Photography in 2015; co-curator for the 2nd Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art, Greece, in 2009 and on the curatorial team of the 2006 Dakar Biennale in Senegal. She was co-curator of The Progress of Love, which after opening at the CCA in 2012, traveled to The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts in St Louis, USA, and the Menil Collection, Houston, and co-curator of J.D. Okhai Ojeikere: Moments of Beauty, at Kiasma, Helsinki in 2011. Silva was a member of the international jury for the 2013 Venice Biennale and a selector for the third Artes Mundi prize in Wales.
She was the younger sister to the Nigerian actress Joke Silva.
