Jameel Prize 4 has announced that Lahore-based artist Ghulam Mohammad has won the 2016 award of £25,000 for a series of five works of paper collage. From a shortlist of 11 artists (out of 200 nominations), Mohammad was selected by a jury which included art dealer Rose Issa, artist Alan Caiger-Smith, Hammad Nasar of Asia Art Archive in Hong Kong, V&A director Martin Roth and Ece and Ayşe Ege, the winners of last year’s Jameel Prize. The biennial prize started in 2009 from a partnership between the V&A and Art Jameel. The Saudi Arabia and Dubai-based foundation aims to support initiatives that promote art from Muslim countries and the Middle East. Art Jameel’s two initiatives ‘Edge of Arabia’ and ‘Arabian Wings’ aim to provide a platform and support for artists with training, to give them exposure through exhibitions and publications.
