The Ruya Foundation, based in Baghdad, has announced the launch of its artist database which supports those working within Iraq, The Art Newspaper reports. The project has two main objectives: to provide Iraqi artists with a platform to communicate their work to an international audience and also to allow curators, galleries and museums to be introduced to the work of many Iraqi artists unknown outside of Iraq. The database currently features the work of 380 artists – 220 of whom are based in Iraq – and covers all areas of visual art. The Ruya Foundation plans to expand the project in order to include filmmakers, writers and musicians.
The database has been made publicly available and can be accessed here.
