Art Jameel has announced plans to open a new multi-disciplinary arts centre which will host exhibitions, comedy and theatre performances and film screenings. This will be the organisation’s second space, in addition to the Dubai centre, due to open in the winter of 2018. The three-storey 17,000 square metre Hayy: Creative Hub (Hayy from the Arabic word for ‘neighbourhood’) is designed by architects ibda design and aims to be a ‘community-oriented’ facility located in an area of north Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. In a design typical of traditional Middle Eastern architecture, the centre incorporates internal courtyards surrounded by shaded terraces and walkways creating a sense of connected spaces throughout the hub. The centre’s programme will include local and international exhibitions of modern and contemporary art; conferences; professional and amateur performances; a digital hub for producers and directors; community markets; and educational events for all ages. Hayy: Creative Hub is scheduled to open in 2019.
