Helen Molesworth, chief curator at Los Angeles’s Museum of Contmeporary Art, has been fired by the museum’s director, Philippe Vergne, the Los Angeles Times reports. Although MOCA’s trustees issued a statement saying that Molesworth was ‘stepping down’ for creative differences, board member and artist Catherine Opie claims Vergne admitted to terminating her, for ‘undermining the museum’.

Prior to joining MOCA in 2014, Molesworth was a curator at the ICA Boston. During her tenure at MOCA, she was responsible for the critically acclaimed retrospectives of Kerry James Marshall and Anna Maria Maiolino, as well as exhibitions by artists including Amy Sillman, Steve Locke, Josiah McElheny and Opie herself.
