Award-winning Swiss architects Herzog & Der Meuron have won the competition to design the Royal College of Art’s new £108m Battersea South campus in London, which aims to bring together the worlds of science, art, design and technology within the university. The architects, whose projects include both Tate Modern buildings, were awarded the project for the clear organisational structure of their proposal, acute sensibility in mapping the complex objectives within the brief, and demonstration of a strong engagement with the existing college buildings and wider surroundings in Battersea.
