Seven artists set new auction records at Sotheby’s Nov 13 contemporary art sale in New York, headed by Andy Warhol’s Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster), 1963, which went under the hammer for $105.4 million, Bloomberg reports. Other artists whose work topped previous prices include Cy Twombly, Agnes Martin and Martin Kippenberger.
The event follows Christie’s contemporary art sale on Nov 12, which saw Francis Bacon’s triptych Three Studies of Lucian Freud,1969, become the most expensive auctioned artwork to date, selling for $142.4 million.
