June 4th Museum, the only permanent memorial space which commemorates the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, has been forced to close, Hyperallergic reports. The museum, which opened just under two years ago has been facing opposition believed to be of a political nature from tenants in the same building. Since the opening of the museum, the organisers have faced various obstacles regarding visitation numbers and The Hong Kong Alliance in Support of Patriotic Democratic Movements in China can no longer afford to fight the lawsuits over building permits. The organisers of June 4th Museum are currently raising funds to move into a larger space.
