Tate announced that Frances Morris will be taking up the position of director at Tate Modern later this year, replacing Chris Dercon after five years in the role. Morris joined Tate as a curator in 1987, becoming head of displays at Tate Modern in 2000, and has been director of collection in International Art since 2006. Along the way she curated several landmark exhibitions, including major retrospectives on women artists such as Louise Bourgeois (2007), Yayoi Kusama (2012) and Agnes Martin (2015).

Morris studied at the Courtauld Institute and is a board member at Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh, and CIMAM, and a member of the advisory committee of the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art, Porto.
