The Madrid-based Fundación Mapfre, renown for its extensive photography collection, has announced it will be opening a second space in Barcelona this October, The Art Newspaper reports.Occupying a nineteenth century house built by the wealthy Garriga-Nogués family, the foundation will host two photography exhibitions and an exhibition in another medium per year.
The space will be inaugurated with a post-Impressionist exhibition organised in collaboration with the Musée d’Orsay in Paris – who will be lending several paintings including works by Van Gogh, Cézanne and Picasso – to be followed by a presentation of Japanese artist Hiroshi Sugimoto’s work in February 2016 and an exhibition by the US photojournalist and Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson, due to open in May 2016.
