The director of Manifesta Hedwig Fijen has announced the artistic team for the travelling biennial which will next take place in Marseille in 2020. Dutch architect Winy Maas and Rotterdam-based architects MVRDV were appointed this year to conduct ‘the pre-biennial research study for the city of Marseille’, – following the same principle as Manifesta 12 in Palermo – in which an urban study of the site aims to ‘integrate the biennial into the social, cultural, and political fabric of the city’. The artistic team for Manifesta 13 comprises: Alya Sebti, director of Berlin’s ifa Gallery; Spanish architect Marina Otero Verzier; Katerina Chuchalina, chief curator at the V-A-C Foundation in Moscow and Venice; Stefan Kalmár, director of the ICA, London.
Manifesta 13 will take place in Marseille from 7 June – 1 November 2020
