Georg Kargl, art dealer and founder of Georg Kargl Fine Arts and of the Society of Projective Aesthetics, has died aged 62. Prior to starting his own gallery in 1998, Kargl founded the Galerie Metropol in 1980 alongside gallerist Christian Meyer: Galerie Metropol took an initial interest in Art Nouveau, but changed course by focusing on contemporary art. In 2005, Kargl opened an experimental exhibition space called ‘BOX’ under the curatorship of Fiona Liewehr, which is dedicated to presenting the work of young artists. In addition, a third space, the former business premises, became a permanent art space in 2006.
Georg Kargl Fine Arts currently represents a roster of 47 artists including Cerith Wyn Evans, Agnieszka Polska, Matt Mullican, Vera Frenkel and Mark Dion.
