Spike Island names Robert Leckie as new director

Spike Island, the Bristol not-for-profit institution has appointed Robert Leckie, currently curator and head of programmes at Gasworks in London, as its new director. Among the exhibitions Leckie coordinated at Gasworks were UK debuts for Monira Al Qadiri, Candice Lin, Naufus Ramírez-Figueroa and Kemang Wa Lehulere, and new commissions by British-based artists Zach Blas, Rachal Bradley, Evan Ifekoya and Sidsel Meineche Hansen.

In 2016–17 he cocurated the exhibition A Kingdom of Hours together with Miguel A. Lopez, which was presented across both Gasworks and TEOR/éTica in San José. Alessio Antoniolli, director of Gasworks said he was ‘sad to see him go’, praising Leckie’s ‘innovative curatorial vision’. Leckie is a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of Art.

Leckie replaces Helen Legg, who has been appointed director of Tate Liverpool.
