The director of collections at Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney has been confirmed as the next director of visual culture museum M+ in Hong Kong, The Art Newspaper reports. Suhanya Raffel will take over from Lars Nittve, who left in January this year citing frustrations over the lengthy development of the project. Although Raffel is an expert in Asian art, there has been some criticism over the appointment of a non-local taking charge of the museum. Other local art galleries and curators have a more positive view of Raffel taking up the role, highlighting her current position and experience in running the Asia Pacific Triennial as a credit to her ability to perform at the helm of the museum. She will take up the post in November.
