Talbot Rice Gallery in Edinburgh, the non-profit space attached to the Edinburgh College of Art, has appointed Tessa Giblin, former curator of visual arts at the Project Arts Center in Dublin, as its new director. The announcement comes at a rocky moment in the Scottish art scene, following the closure of the Edinburgh’s Inverleith House (the contemporary art gallery based in the city’s botanic gardens) and Glasgow Sculpture Studios’ announcement that it would suspend its exhibition programme for at least three years, making two staff redundant. New Zealand-born Giblin, who is commissioner for Ireland’s pavilion at next year’s Venice Biennale, succeeds Pat Fisher.
