Estonia’s Center for Contemporary Arts has announced that artist Kris Lemsalu will represent the country at the 58th Venice Biennale, schedule to run from 11 May to 24 November 2019. For this edition, the Estonian pavilion will be located in an industrial building on the island of Giudecca. For her presentation at the pavilion, Lemsalu will create a fantasy world, mixing reality with fiction, that will involve music, dance and invite visitor participation. Born in Tallinn in 1985, Lemsalu lives between Berlin and Tallinn. Recent exhibitions of the artist’s work have been held at the Ferdinand Bauman Gallery, Prague, Temnikova & Kasela Gallery, Tallinn, and Tanja Wagner Gallery, Berlin. She also presented a durational performance at Frieze New York in 2015, and a collaborative performance with the Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Kyp Malone for Performa 17 last November.
