Art critic Brian Sewell has died of cancer, aged 84. Sewell, who was art critic at the London Evening Standard for over 30 years, studied at the Courtauld under Anthony Blunt and was well-known for his forthright and often acerbic opinions. While his opinions and often ferocious criticism, particularly of many contemporary artists and art institutions, offended many, he couldn’t be faulted for the passion of his convictions about what good art is or should be.
