Manchester’s Whitworth gallery is the recipient of the 2015 Museum of the Year award, awarded every year by the Art Fund.
The Whitworth was selected from a shortlist of six, after its £15m restructuring, that also earned it a 2015 RIBA Award. ‘We were particularly taken with the relationship between the reconceived building and its surrounding park’ Stephan Deuchar, chair of the judges and director of the Art Fund, said; ‘Museum, locality and community merge as if one’.
