The Centre Pompidou will open a satellite space in Shanghai’s growing art district West Bund, The Art Newspaper reports. The new outpost, named Le Centre Pompidou Shanghai (West Bund) is scheduled to hold more than 20 exhibitions of works drawing on the Centre Pompidou’s collections, which will be housed in the David Chipperfield-designed West Bund Art Museum (expected to be completed at the end of 2018).
The partnership between the West Bund Group and Centre Pompidou aims to build cultural cooperation between the two institutions, with the latter organising a number of projects displaying Chinese art in Paris. A statement released by Centre Pompidou says that the partnership also hopes to implement ‘regular bilateral academic exchanges, training and exchange programs of international museum operation and management’ in order to encourage cultural communications between China and France.
