The winners of this year’s AWARE Prizes for Women Artists have been announced: Jacqueline de Jong received the Outstanding Merit Prize, honouring an artist whose career is at least three-decades long, and Hélène Bertin received the Prix AWARE for an artist whose career spans less ten years. They will each receive a €10,000 grant.

Bertin and de Jong were selected by an international jury comprising Alfred Pacquement (honorary general heritage conservation officer), president of the panel, Manuel Borja-Villel (director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid), Marie Cozette (director of the Crac Occitanie / Pyrénées-Méditerranée, Sète), Fanny Gonella (director of 49 Nord Est – Frac Lorraine, Metz), Camille Morineau (director of exhibitions and collections of the Monnaie de Paris, co-founder and chairwoman of AWARE), Catherine Petitgas (collector and art historian), and Yves Robert (director of the Centre National des Arts Plastiques – Cnap).

Launched in 2017, the dual prize is distributed annually by the non-profit organisation Archives of Women Artists, Research and Exhibition, with the support of the French ministry of culture and the Chanel Fund for Women in the Arts and Culture.
