The Art Institute of Chicago is to be given 42 major contemporary artworks with an estimated value of $400 million, from the collection of local philanthropists Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson, the Chicago Tribune has reported. The works, dated from 1953 to 2011, are by artists including Andy Warhol, Jasper Johns, Cy Twombly, Jeff Koons, Charles Ray, Richard Prince, Cindy Sherman, Roy Lichtenstein and Gerhard Richter. The gift is the largest of its kind in the museum’s history.

The Institute will display the collection of paintings, sculpture and photographs from January 2016 in the second-floor galleries of its Modern Wing, for the next 50 years, as the Edlis/Neeson Collection.
