Experimenter has announced the opening of a second space in Kolkata on 28 February 2018. Based at Ballygunge Place, an area in the south of the city, the space will run a programme of exhibitions alongside the original gallery which is located nearby. The new space is housed on two floors of a 1930s building restored by Indian architect Rajeev Agarwal and lighting design team Lyle Lopez. Both galleries will continue to programme solo and group shows of works by local and international artists. Experimenter at Ballygunge Place will open with its inaugural exhibition I wish to let you fall out of my hands (Chapter II) – a continuation from Chapter I at the Hindustan Road space – featuring Ayesha Sultana, Adip Dutta, Bani Abidi, Julien Segard, Krishna Reddy, Moyra Davey, Rathin Barman and Samson Young. Experimenter has described this group exhibition as a way to ‘explore ideas of dislocation, memory, contemplation and material and human relationships through painting, installation, video, sound and sculpture bringing together works by a cross-generation of artists’. The exhibition runs from 28 February to 7 April.
