The Miami-based Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation (CIFO) has announced the nine recipients of its 2017 Grants & Commissions Program Award. The Mexican-American post-conceptual artist Daniel Joseph Martinez receives the foundation’s Achievement Award recipient, for a multimedia practice of over 25 years that includes sculpture, video, text and street performance.
For the fifteenth annual edition, the awarded artists represent six countries in three categories. In the Emerging Artists category, the artists are Ilich Castillo (Ecuador), Alana Iturralde (Puerto Rico), Juan Carlos Osorno (Colombia), the duo Celia y Yunior (Cuba), Katherinne Fiedler (Peru) and Ulrik López (Puerto Rico). Richard Garet (Uruguay) and Fredy Alzate (Colombia) receive grants in the Mid-Career Artists.
The nine recipients will be part of an annual exhibit, to open on September 7, 2017.
The grants and commissions programme offers emerging, mid-career and established contemporary Latin American artists the opportunity to develop and present new work to the local and international audiences of Miami. The foundation was established by collector Ella Fontanals-Cisneros in 2002.
